Task 02 : Exploration of Garment Draping

WEEK 4 - WEEK 9

For this task, we are required to apply our draping knowledge onto the first look of our final collection. I consulted with Ms. Melina on my first look and asked her if I can drape on the mannequin after making the manipulation first (to keep the straight lines on my fabric manipulation). She said it is possible, therefore, I executed this idea. 

Fabric Manipulation for Look 1 Top

I start off by draping the fabric on the mannequin, and pin the points needed (waist line, bust line, side lines) 


I traced and marked the width and length of the top, as well as the shape of the top after it has been draped 




I then proceed to cutting the fabric and sewing the sides together, and attached zipper




Process 

Due to my fabric being very stretchy, I struggled with the fitting at first as it fits nicely on the mannequin, however, when worn by human, it drops as the skin is elastic. I then proceed to alter the garment and finally have it well-fitted after lots of unpicking and re-sewing process to get the perfect fit.

RESULT



Because of choosing to drape, I can successfully keep my fabric manipulation just as how I imagined it to turn out. Yay!

  WEEK 1 - WEEK 4 On our first meeting with Ms. Melina, we were introduced to basic garment draping. We were taught how to define the bust line, waist line, hip line, and other terminology used in the draping process.
