Task 01 : Basic Garment Draping

 WEEK 1 - WEEK 4

On our first meeting with Ms. Melina, we were introduced to basic garment draping. We were taught how to define the bust line, waist line, hip line, and other terminology used in the draping process. This first meeting with Ms. Melina made me excited for the upcoming semester, as I can't wait to learn more.

First Garment Draping Lesson

For our first task, we are required to drape a skirt on a half size mannequin. I followed Ms. Melina's instruction on the steps and start draping it.

Next, we are required to make a dress form arm for the dummy. I traced the sleeve pattern, cut it on the colico fabric, and transfer the colors on the pattern. I then proceed to sew based on the lines color, close the dart, sew the side together, add stuffing, and finally close off the arm by hand-stitch

We were also told to trace the half size mannequin bodice, skirt, and sleeves pattern

For our next exercise, we are required to drape a basic bodice on the mannequin. First of all, we need to prepare two piece of colico fabric and make a line to mark the bust line. Then, we start draping on the mannequin by pinning the bust point and waist point. We also created darts and mark the points.

Our next activity is to drape a princess line bodice. We start by cutting 4 piece of colico fabric following the measurements provided by Ms. Melina. I then proceed to drape and mark the princess line, shoulder line, armhole, side line, and waist line. After having all of the pieces, I hand-stitched the princess line and the shoulder and sides together.

Our last exercise is making a basic dress on a size 12 dummy by draping. After draping and marking all the important points, I proceed to sew the dress and attach lining.
